Research Focus: Processing concepts
One main focus in this field is the procedural design of single and twin-screw plasticizing units by means of simulation dies like REX/PSI and SIGMA. Here, actual processes are analyzed and the activity is monitored. On the basis of mathematic- physical models the corresponding processes are recalculated and optimized energetically with the help of simulation programs. Another advantage of using REX/PSI and SIGMA is the reduction or shortening of experimental performances as well of the development times.
Due to the fact that a product has to perform exactly what is demanded by the client, manufacturing processes need to be optimized. Here, further research activities in the field of “processing concepts” with the help of the software packages MPConline and MPCoffline are used. These instruments serve for the quality control and they are used in various single- and multistage processes of polymer processing.
Moreover, the research work in this field concentrates on the mixing of rubbers. These activities mainly concentrate on the observation of the mixing chamber as a whole, but also on the optimization of single components, for instance the internal mixer.
Foci:
- Quality control (MPC)
- Rubber internal mixer
- Rubber mixing chamber
- Energetic optimization of procedures
