The department of engineering at the University of Paderborn has been awarded with the certificate of the Fakultätentag für Maschinenbau und Verfahrenstechnik FTMV. The aim of the certificate is to assure the quality of teachings, research and organziation by certification. “This award shows that our department is on the same level than the mostly bigger departments of technical universities. We are very proud that we have got this certificate after only one year of membership in the Fakultätentag”, says a happy Prof. Dr.-Ing. Detmar Zimmer, dean of the department of engineering. “The education as mechanical engineer in Paderborn is first choice for students.”

“The certificate is subject to demanding selection criteria and because of its broad data basis far beyond the usual rankings”, explains Prof. Dr.-Ing. Elmar Moritzer, professorship for polymer technology and representative of the Paderborn members in the Fakultätentag: “Those who have been awarded here really have the highest quality in research and teachings.” 18 indexes in the categories research, teachings and organization are queried, which are evaluated and rated with the help of a specially developed procedure.

Together with the University of Paderborn the University of Bayreuth, the technical universities Dresden and Ilmenau as well as the technical university Kaiserslautern were awarded this year.

The Fakultätentag für Maschinenbau und Verfahrenstechnik is an association of departments, faculties or branches for engineering or process technology of the universities, technical universities and technical colleges of the Federal Republic of Germany and Europe. The aim of the association is the realization of the common interest of the faculties taking part in matters of teachings, research and academic autonomy as well as in university political issues. This is done by mutual information, by advice and passing resolutions and recommendations as well as by representing common issues towards a third party.
